About Me I am currently an NGH Board Certified Hypnotist with an office in Poughkeepsie NY. Before I came to practice hypnosis, I had a long career with IBM, where I wore many hats. After retiring from IBM Research, I decided to pursue my long held interest in hypnosis with the thought that I could apply it to help people make their own lives better. To quote my friend Marcia Proctor, speaking of hypnosis as a profession, "This is *great* stuff!"
Music I'm a fan of classical music, and listen to that genre mostly. I'm also a fan of what we used to call American Popular Classics, the Swing Era, classic ensemble jazz (Dixieland) and Bluegrass.
Movies I still get goosebumps when Victor Laslo stands up in front of the band at Rick's and calls for La Marseillaise, and the people join in, drowning out the Nazis. That might give you a clue as to my favorite movie is, although I'm also quite fond of Star Trek, Star Wars and Harry Potter films.
TV I watch a lot of the History Channel, Turner Classic Movies, Yankee games, news, and anything by Ken Burns.
Books I don't read as much as I should. When I do it's generally non-fiction, mostly political and military history. Once in a while I'll read poetry, often by Edna St. Vincent Millay, whom I quote in my profile. Not too often because I know she'll have me in tears within ten minutes or so. It's not because her writing is so sad, it's mostly from a sense of loss, in that I never knew her...
Likes Old friends, new friends, classical music, talking with people about hypnotism... (I wonder if this is where I should mention Ipswich fried clams?)
Dislikes The common mistake of confusing performance with character. I believe that, just for example mind you, a not so good man can be a not so bad President, and a pretty good man can be a pretty bad President. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental.
Hobbies Not as many as I used to have. I no longer work on cars or do much with Ham radio, I still enjoy Electronics of the Hollow State and writing...
Vices Tanqueray martinis before dinner, but only two. I'm also merciless in my castigation of those who labor under the mistaken impression that anything made with that dilute torpedo fuel known as vodka can properly be called a "martini". I try not to be pedantic about it...
Virtues There must be some... don't rush me, I'm thinking...
Heroes I'll only mention three names right now, George Washington, Martin Luther King jr., and Myrtle Maxwell Dunscomb Katzenberger Roberts, my mother.

The NGH Member Forums are Back -- New and Improved!

Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 03:36 PM EST [NGH Convention]

This invaluable resource of news, advice and techniques has been inactive for quite a while due to problems with older software.  A new version of the Member Forums is now up and running, and you will find it at this URL http://www.ngh.net/smf_forums/index.php.  You'll need to register your user name and password, and then you can sign in and see all the Forums.  (Unregistered users only see 5 Forums.)  You can also fill out a profile, with your photot and links to your Web site .

By the most remarkable of coincidences, I'll be presenting a free one hour Seminar on the new Member Forums at the NGH Convention in August.   Hints and kinks, advice and how-to's, ways to get the most out of this terrific benefit of NGH membership.

    Cheers,
    Robert

    Consider Sharing Convention Expenses

Tuesday, April 15, 2008, 04:52 PM EST [NGH Convention]

August 2008 is really just around the corner, and so is the annual NGH Convention in Marlborough Mass. Meanwhile, for many folks it seems as if the economy is slowing down while gasoline and other prices are soaring up. If thinking about costs might discourage you from attending this remarkable event, why not start now to find someone to share expenses with? Every year, people share hotel rooms and sometimes automobile rides to and from Marlborough. (Note - while you're there you really don't need a car, free shuttle buses can take you just about anywhere you want to go.)

If you have a reserved room to share, or if you're looking for one, the NGH Convention Discussion Group right here on Ourhypnospace is a logical place to post that information.
Think it over -- what could it hurt?

    This may help:

    • You can win a lot of them...
    • You can win most of them...

      But...

    • You cannot win them all.

New NGH Web Site -- Member Forums Update

Monday, January 7, 2008, 02:55 PM EST [General]

It turns out that the NGH Member Forums will allow you to post if you are using Firefox, but not if you are using Internet Explorer.  This is a bug, not a plicy, and they are working to resolve the problem.

If you'd like to try Firefox, you can get it free here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

New NGH Web Site -- Member Forums

Friday, January 4, 2008, 10:06 AM EST [General]

I have inquired as to why the NGH Member Forums are no longer accepting new posts, and I received this answer from Jereme Bachand CH, NGH Communications Director:

We have not taken it away, we are working on getting a new version that will work on the new NGH website server. We will be getting it back up as soon as possible.

So, it looks as if we will have to wait a while longer before we can actually use this very valuable resource.
